30th November 2021

Dear all,

I was hoping you might kindly be able to help promote Doorstep Carols (Dec 15th, 6pm) in Shropshire?

If you could share our flyer (attached) on parish social media feeds and noticeboards and encourage community group uptake, I would be very grateful. Last year's event proved that this has huge power to strengthen communities.

The event started in Shrewsbury but has gone national - the same set list of carols will be played on BBC Local Radio across the UK on December 15th at 6pm for one hour. The idea is that neighbourhoods should come together and sing or play along. There are very easy parts for instruments too - all music and words is free online at www.doorstepcarols.co.uk

People are invited to donate to our partner charities listed on the website, or use the event to raise money for local causes - or just sing along with their neighbours!

We have a huge number of hub events going on around the country (see the attached press release) but it'd be great to ensure widespread uptake here in Shropshire, where it began.

Any sharing on social media, or perhaps linking with your own community organisations/pubs, would be much appreciated! Putting it up on your own personal feeds to tell friends about it will also help a huge amount! Everything we all do encourages more people to sing.

There are some great resources to download and share on social media on this page of our website: https://www.doorstepcarols.co.uk/get-involved

This is all about collaboration - everyone is welcome to 'own' this event and make of it what they will!

Many thanks,

The countdown is on to Shropshire Council’s first electric vehicle and bicycle exhibition – Shropshire Goes Electric!

Exhibitors include Budgen Motors, Hatfields Jaguar, Hatfields Landrover, Furrows Group, Greenhous Vauxhall, TJ Vickers, JT Hughes, Shropshire Cycle Hub, Shropshire Climate Action Partnership (SCAP), Islabikes, Quest88, EVC Solutions Ltd, Rybrook BMW and Rybrook Mini.

Shropshire Goes Electric! event

Ian Nellins, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for climate change, natural assets and the green economy, said:-

“With fuel prices rising and an ever-increasing awareness of the impact we’re having on our planet, there’s never been a better time to explore the use of electric vehicles and bicycles. I really feel that we as a council have a requirement to lead the way, so we’re really excited to be able to host an exhibition will allow you to do just that.

“There will be lots of different brands, including some secondhand vehicles. There will also be a place to charge them, and the opportunity to find out more about the charging points currently available across the county and those that are planned.”

Shropshire already has around 800 electric vehicle owners, with many more owning electric bicycles. This figure is increasing all the time.

Ian added:-

“Transport contributes to around a third of our carbon footprint in Shropshire, so making a change to electric is one of the ways that we can make a difference. I understand it’s not for everyone though – electric vehicles are expensive; but the low running costs, low maintenance and long life will help to offset the initial cost. If it’s something you are thinking about, attending our exhibition will hopefully enable you to make an informed choice.”

Adrian Cooper, Shropshire Council’s climate change task force leader, and Ian went on Shropshire Business Live TV (SBLTV) last week to talk about it. Watch it here (https://vimeo.com/639959636).
