Roadworks notification from National Highways

We’re writing to inform you of some upcoming essential resurfacing work on the A49 at Bayston Hill. Our work has been combined to minimise future disruption and to provide a smoother and safer road surface for users.

  • Resurfacing of the A49
  • Resurfacing of the laybys within our working area
  • Renewal of high friction surfacing
  • Refresh all road markings throughout our working area
  • Road studs to be re-instated
  • Replacement of 4 signs
  • Renewal of ironworks and drainage gully repairs
  • Removal of debris

Safety is and always will be our number one priority; that is why our ambition remains that no one should be harmed while travelling or working on our roads.

When will this work take place?

We’ll work overnight from Monday 2 February 2026 to April 2026, between 8pm and 6am, Monday to Friday, ending 6am Saturday mornings.

To carry out our work safely, we’ll work under a full closure of the A49 from Bayston Hill roundabout to the junction at Station Road in Condover.

During closures, the following diversion route will be in place for strategic traffic. Local access will be maintained between Craven Arms and Condover.

15th December 2025

We were greatly saddened that at the Shropshire Council Northern Planning Committee on Tuesday 9th December permission was granted for Redrow to build 112 houses at the base of Lyth Hill, an area of green agricultural land.

Chairman Cllr Rob Ruscoe said “Bayston Hill Parish Council have fought hard to prevent this from happening – we are not NIMBYs, we understand that development will happen in our Parish. However, this incoming blot to our landscape is inappropriate and ill thought through.

“There are considerable restrictions to this site, poor access, congested entry points to the village from major trunk roads and flooding to name but a few. Locally there is zero capacity for additional school or doctor places. The site is not served by public transport nor does it have amenities that would be accessible by foot given the distance it is away from the village centre.

“We are also disappointed by the manner in which Shropshire Planning Dept have handled the 2 hearings that have taken place at the Northern Planning Committee. Members were denied a site visit, which we had requested due to the earlier committee being held in August and members being on holiday. The public meeting recording is not complete, denying interested parties from fully hearing the proceedings. Members raising questions were given incorrect information regarding density of surrounding roads, the grade of agricultural land and that a comprehensive consultation with the parish had taken place – it had not.”

21st November 2025

Your Parish Council has arranged for the representatives for the Bloor Homes/Pulley Lane development to attend a meeting of its Full Council.

Details of this meeting can be found here.

14th November 2025

You may have seen that Bloor Homes will potentially be submitting plans for housing on Pulley Lane. There is no current application or EIA but they are holding a drop in on Thursday 27th November 2pm to 6pm at Meole Brace Peace Memorial Hall.

Bayston Hill Parish Council have been approached by the public relations company who have been engaged to consult. The Parish Council have a robust Planning Policy which states that we will only speak with developers in a public forum, in our case a Full Council meeting. Many of you will have seen this happen with other developers in the last 2 years. This system works well, everything is transparent and residents and Councillors are given the opportunity to ask questions.

We have contacted the developer to offer this opportunity to come to a meeting of the Full Council to present any proposals and we hope that they take up this offer.

Any major updates on planning applications are posted on our website www.baystonhillparishcouncil.org.uk and facebook, you can also sign up to our newsletter by emailing clerk@baystonhillparishcouncil.org.uk.
